Glad to read this epitaph. You have the right to write this, your father should be thankfully for you're even remembering him. My father was like hell as well. Should I meet him again after life the first thing I'll do is blow him head off. Good luck to you, bro.

It's funny. People think that since we're born with parents and family that we MUST get along. That's not true. We're here on this earth to interact and to learn from each other and to respect each other. But we don't need to always get along--I'm not saying to start a war. But we may be unfortunate enough to be raised/stuck with some of these people we don't like. It's impossible to get along with everyone. Once we understand that, it's like a breath of fresh air. It's when we think we need to please and be kind to everyone, we bring more stress into our lives. I don't mean to say that we should hate anyone either. But the opposite of love/hate is actually indifference. So be it. You're a brave soul, lad. Just to think that your soul has progressed because of your interaction/relationship with your father. You may not know it, but you learned something from being born into your family. The fruits of your accomplishments may be harvested soon enough.

It takes courage to make such statement, I feel sorry for the loss of a human being. In same time, I could almost see every single of your body muscle relaxing as your were typing those words. Look like a purgatory to me. I experience lighter but comparable family context, so may him rest in piece and you reborn in grace :)

Jesus! I also come from an abusive background. Others may not know how you feel but I can identify.

Fortunately my father reformed before he died. He went to AA and then spent 20 years trying to make amends. He he just neglected us. He never verbally or emotionally abused us or beat us - ever. On the other hand, my mother remained the she bitch from hell until she became demented, conveniently forgetting the torture she inflicted on us. She outlived my dad who hated her guts (no wonder!) She didn't drink (fuck no! not her - She was a perfect Christian who beat us with her bible, donncha know). She physically, verbally and psychologically abused all her children. I was the eldest and I spent most of my childhood making sure she beat on me, rather than the little ones.

You are entitled to your anger. Feel it but don't let it twist you and fuck you up. Because if you became bitter and twisted for life that would be the bastard's final revenge.
